Implant treatment, which is used in place of missing teeth, is a preventive application since it is performed without any intervention to other teeth remaining in the mouth. In terms of chewing function, a dental implant exerts a similar force to a normal tooth, thus providing a better chewing ability than other prostheses.

Implant treatment is usually performed while the patient is awake, only by numbness of the relevant area. Although implant placement is a surgical procedure, for most patients, placing an implant is faster and more comfortable than extracting a tooth.

Implant is a type of prosthesis that can be applied to this area in cases where permanent teeth are missing, imitating the tooth root and aiming to regain the aesthetics and chewing ability here. If there is enough space in the jawbone, it can be successfully applied in almost all tooth deficiencies. Apart from this, implant treatment is applied in order to increase the retention of "removable full dentures", also known as "palatal prosthesis" among the people, and thus to increase the comfort of the patient. Nowadays, even in patients who have lost all their teeth, “removable or fixed (i.e. removable or non-removable) implant-retained prostheses” are preferred. A dental implant can be placed in the same session following the extraction of the tooth, or it can be placed after an average of 2-3 months, by waiting for the healing of the extraction site to be completed.

Patients with implants have to pay special attention to oral care, just like other patients with fillings and prostheses. They should brush their teeth and implant supported prostheses at least twice a day, and clean between teeth and implants with dental floss or interface brushes. Moreover, they should be careful not to skip their checkups in line with the advice of their dentists.

One of the most frequently asked questions by our patients is whether the implant causes allergies or cancer. In the researches carried out, there is no evidence that the implant is carcinogenic. Already, currently dental implants are produced from a metal called titanium, which has a fairly high biological compatibility with the body. In addition, orthopedic titanium implants have been used successfully in other bones of the body for many years. As for allergies, it has been shown that they can rarely cause allergic reactions in individuals who are too sensitive to this issue or in people with intense allergies to other metals.

Although there is no clear age limit for implant treatment, waiting for the completion of the puberty period is a preferred approach. Even if the structure of the bones changes with advancing age, this does not constitute an obstacle to the construction of the implant. So our age range is quite wide.

The average routine duration is 3-4 months. However, depending on the degree of hardness of the bone, this period may extend for 1-2 months. If more than one implant is to be made, are they all done in the same session? This situation actually depends on the preference of the patient first and then of the physician. While some patients want to complete their treatment in short but multiple sessions, others prefer to finish the entire treatment in a single session. However, there is no harm in placing all implants in the same session. Is it possible to use an implant for a lifetime? Yes, just like our teeth, we can neglect our implants and lose them at an early stage, or we can use them for a lifetime by taking good care of them.

Bridge prostheses are prostheses that require the teeth located in front of and behind toothless cavities to be cut and reduced and connect the two sides of the cavity thanks to the support of these teeth. On the other hand, in implant-supported prostheses, since the support is provided with a dental implant that imitates the root of the tooth, there is no need to cut and cover the adjacent teeth. For this reason, in terms of other teeth remaining in the mouth, choosing implant-supported prostheses rather than bridge prostheses emerges as a more protective treatment option. Therefore, if it is possible, we definitely recommend implant treatment as the first option for our patients with tooth deficiency.
