What is Obesity?

Obesity is a complex condition caused by the excessive accumulation of fat tissue in the body, leading to various health problems. In the calculation of obesity, Body Mass Index (BMI) calculation based on height and weight values is used: According to the World Health Organization, a BMI over 30 is accepted as obese, over 40 as morbidly obese and over 50 as super obese.

What is Obesity (Bariatric) Surgery?

Obesity surgery refers to all surgical interventions performed to eliminate morbid obesity and is medically known as “bariatric surgery”. Nowadays, bariatric surgery is considered the most effective method for achieving sustainable weight loss in morbidly obese patients.
Bariatric surgery comes into play when a patient is unable to lose enough weight through diet, physical exercise, behavior modification and medications.
